Equality Statement

As a deaf-led theatre company, we are passionate about not only embracing diversity, equality and inclusion within our own organisation, but also challenging and redressing the balance in society more widely by providing opportunities and a platform for deaf performers and theatre professionals to participate both in the mainstream and at the cutting edge of theatre.

We work to equip deaf adults and young people with the confidence, communication and performance skills they need to excel, and raise awareness of the needs of deaf professionals and audiences.

Deafinitely Theatre is committed to equality informing and guiding all aspects of our work, whereby people are given what they need to be able to access the same opportunities. We value diversity and believe that people from different backgrounds can bring fresh ideas, thinking and approaches which make our work better. We seek to make our performances accessible to everyone while redressing the inequity of access to participation in and enjoyment of the performing arts between hearing and deaf people found in wider society.

We will promote a positive and harmonious working environment in which all people are treated with respect, and where occurrences of unlawful direct and indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation are prevented and challenged.

We will fulfill all our legal obligations under equality legislation such as the Equality Act 2010 and associated codes of practice, and comply with our own diversity, equality & inclusion policy.
