Deafinitely Theatre and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company, have worked to develop a new, 5-day BSL in Performance Acting Intensive course in July 2024. 

The course is the first of its kind and will provide deaf artists with bespoke, high-quality actor training.

You will be lead by deaf teachers, artists and practitioners in British Sign Language (BSL). 



about the course

You will work on exercises and improvisations to approach acting challenges within an ensemble.

There will be practical workshops in Acting Fundamentals, Translation, Movement, Visual Vernacular and Acting for Camera.

The course will be led by Paula Garfield, Artistic Director of Deafinitely Theatre, and Jenny Sealey MBE, Artistic Director of Graeae Theatre Company, alongside actor trainers from Central.

As part of the course, you will also find out more about other BSL acting courses currently in development at Central.

The course is fully funded, and it is free to take part. There are a limited number of travel bursaries available.
