Recognising the need to restart ideas and get creative, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama invited Deafinitely’s Artistic Director “Paula Garfield” to speak at their prestigious online TedX event entitled restART on Saturday 13 February 2021

The online event included a series of speakers from different arts sectors coming together to share ideas to inspire, educate and enrich the artistic community.

“Theatre is keeping sign language alive. Despite the wider, societal oppression of sign language, theatre maintains its presence and shows the strength of sign language.”

Paula’s talk entitled The Language That Made Me gave an inspiring and enlightening look at how British Sign Language has shaped her career and her experience as a deaf theatre director and Artistic Director of a theatre company.

“Growing up I had teachers telling me that I must speak well so that I would ‘fit in’ to society.”...“Many of us continue to fight for deaf representation in the arts, theatre, TV and film. Not only actors but for all those working backstage and behind the scenes”
