Deafinitely Youth Company

If you are between 14 and 21 years old, this is your chance to get really stuck in and commit. The company is formed of young people who want to learn more about drama and commit to a term of workshops and activities that build acting and performance skills.

Company members are then cast in the Deafinitely Youth Company production and begin a schedule of rehearsals ending in a performance in a professional theatre open to the public.

Applications for the 2020- 2021 will open later this year. Once we receive your application, you will be invited to the audition workshop.

The Audition Workshop is your opportunity to see if the group is right for you, but equally for us to see if you are right for the group. The audition will be a fun day of activities in a workshop style so there is no need to prepare anything.

Successful participants will be informed following the Audition Workshop.

Company places are £5 for the year (September - February) and are strictly limited

What will I get out of taking part?

  • You will learn a range of performance skills as well as other roles in theatre, such as theatre design.
  • You will have the opportunity to perform a play in a professional theatre in the final performance.
  • You'll work with professional theatre-makers and gain a wide range of skills.
  • Meet other deaf and hearing young people with similar interests and make new friends.

Do I need previous experience?

  • No. We welcome newcomers, so no previous experience is required. The Audition Workshop is your opportunity to see if DYC is for you and our opportunity to see if you are right for the group.

What are Deafinitely Theatre looking for?

  • We are looking for enthusiastic and committed participants - team players who are able to take initiative, contribute ideas, collaborate, negotiate, compromise and support others.
  • Participants need to be between the ages of 14 - 21 years old.

I have been a member of Deafinitely Youth Company in the past, do I still need to attend the Taster Workshop?

  • Yes. We would like to see all those who want to be a part of DYT, including previous members, at the Taster Workshop. If you're unable to attend but still want to be part of DYT, please let us know. Previous members will also need to fill out the application form.

Where and when does Deafinitely Youth Company take place?

  • DYC meet twice a month on Saturdays. We meet at Diorama Arts Studios in London and sometimes other venues in town.
  • We ask that you commit to DYC and we expect you to attend all workshops. (We understand that occasionally family and other commitments might make this difficult and we are willing to discuss this).
  • DYC requires full commitment for the week-long rehearsal dates during February half-term leading up to the final performance.

How much is it to be a member of the company?

  • Deafinitely Youth Theatre company is generously funded by trusts and foundations, which allows us to provide the course for a small fee of £5. In return we expect all participants to commit to the course, as outlined above, attending and working towards achieving an Arts Award qualification.
