Deafinitely Theatre is launching a special project to support deaf or hard of hearing freelance theatre practitioners and performers during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are excited to offer 20 bursaries of £1,000 to support freelancers develop their practice in Spring 2021 (1st February - 31st March 2021).

We know how difficult this period has been for self-employed theatre makers due to the devastating impact of Covid-19 and supported by the Arts Council Cultural Recovery Fund we are able to help 20 deaf or hard of hearing artists with paid time to develop their practice in 2021.

What are the requirements?

We welcome applications from deaf or hard of hearing theatre practitioners and performers aged 18 and over at any stage of their career. You could be a writer, director, designer, choreographer, actor, dancer, stage manager, technician, make-up artist, community practitioner or producer – or any other role in the theatre industry.

you could use the bursary for:

  • Developing a new idea.
  • A period of research.
  • A period of writing.
  • A period of rehearsing.
  • Collaborating with another theatre maker.
  • Training.
  • Preparing a show reel or video to showcase your work.

We are looking to support a variety of deaf or hard or hearing theatre practitioners and performers at different levels of their career and with different levels of experience and will select 20 applicants on this basis.

Bursary recipients will be required to prepare a short video in April to show how they have used their bursary. This could be a performance, reading, presentation or creative response (for example). Videos will be showcased on Deafinitely Theatre’s website.

You must be self-employed to apply for this bursary, not in full-time education, live in the United Kingdom and have a UK bank account.

What support will I receive from Deafinitely Theatre?

Each successful applicant will receive a bursary (award) of £1,000 to support their creative activity.

Deafinitely Theatre will provide bursary recipients with a networking session and keeping-in-touch session to monitor their personal development.

Deafinitely Theatre will host a video by each bursary recipient on our website to promote the creative work and skills of the participants.
