Paula Garfield
Artistic
Director |
Paula Garfield - Artistic Director
An actor, director, workshop leader and organiser, she has worked on a variety
of television, film and theatre projects over
the past fifteen years.
She went on to set up Deafinitely Theatre with Steven Webb and Kate Furby after becoming frustrated at the blocks that Deaf actors and directors face in mainstream media.
She has produced and directed many plays, including
'Two Chairs', 'Motherland',
and 'Children of a Greater God' and all of Deafinitely Theatre's shows except 'Dysfunction'.
She’s
also worked extensively for TV, including
Channel Four’s 'Learn Sign Language', 'Four Fingers
and a Thumb', BBC’s 'Hands Up', 'Casualty', and appeared in
every series of the BBC's Deaf drama, 'Switch'. |
Mark Sands
General Manager |
Mark Sands - General Manager and Financial Administration.
Mark trained at Warwick University and East 15 Acting School and worked as an actor for ten years. He was joint company director, writer and actor for the Angels Theatre Company and was the Theatre Manager of Studio Theatre for four years.
He then joined Deafinitely Theatre as a script writer for Motherland and was hired as General Manager in 2005, looking after the administration and finances for the company. |
Terese Weiss
Communication Support Worker and Press Officer |
Terese Weiss - Communication Support Worker, Press Officer and general assistant to Paula Garfield.
Terese also joined Deafinitely Theatre in 2005, and handles our press enquiries, makes bookings, and generally makes life much easier for Paula.
She comes from sunny Denmark, has lived in many different countries, and says Deafinitely Theatre is a whole new country! |

Furby

Kate Furby - Contract Staff
Hearing with fluent BSL, graduated from Warwick University with a
degree in Theatre Studies and works as an
actor, workshop leader, youth theatre director
and sign language interpreter.
A founding member of Deafinitely Theatre in 2002, left in 2005 to focus on her interpreting studies, but still regularly works with us as contract staff in many roles.
Performed
in Deafinitely Theatre's 'Motherland', 'Dysfunction', and was Assistant Director for 'Children of a Greater God'. Has previously directed the Camden Youth Theatre Project at Camden People's Theatre, and appeared on TV in 'Switch'. |

Tomato Lichy

Tomato Lichy - Contract Staff - Technical Officer
Hired on contract by Deafinitely Theatre in 2006 to work as Technical Support Officer. Set up our new computer network in our new offices, and is responsible for training staff in IT, solving technical problems, maintaining and updating the website.
He wrote the script for 'Children of a Greater God' and has also worked as a performance artist, creating and performing 'Alien[ated] Skin' at the ICA, central London, and 'Jesus' with Gilbert and George at Decima Gallery.
He makes experimental films in BSL and has produced the DVD of 'Motherland',
all 6 short films for 'Children of a Greater God'. He has also created and directed the short films 'Deaf Tree' and 'Deaf Lake' - which will be shown at the Tate Modern in 2007. |
