About us

Three founding members of Deafinitely Theatre - Paula Garfield, Kate Furby, and Steve Webb.

Deafinitely Theatre was set up in January 2002 by Paula Garfield, Steven Webb and Kate Furby to produce performance ideas by deaf people. The past years have seen our reputation grow, not only within the deaf community but in the London theatre community in general.

All our work is Deaf led but is accessible to hearing people as well. We also run projects and workshops for youth theatres, community groups, colleges and schools.

Vision and Values

Deafinitely Theatre is a new, radical and visual presence in theatre. Its vision is to become a leading independent company promoting innovative work by new writers and Deaf groups, in a language that can be understood by all.

By building partnerships with professionals and artistic companies, Deafinitely Theatre presents plays which have been creatively led by Deaf artists and actors using the universal language of theatre. The guiding values are to express dialogue and story-telling through sign and speech.

By using community education projects, Deafinitely Theatre encourages more Deaf children, young people and adults to enjoy theatre and draw on their own experiences of life. Through theatre, the challenge is to give people across different cultures a voice and to break down common perceptions about the homogeneity of Deaf people living in society.
